Multi-Agent Systems for Container Terminal Management

An overview of literature is conducted on research focusing on improving the performance of container terminals. The growth of containerization has led to numerous decision problems for container terminal management to consider in operating their container terminals more efficiently, e.g. where to place a ship along a quay, scheduling the resources to work a ship, etc. The research papers reviewed are summarized and then categorized based on the decision type, time frame, and container terminal system employed. The general conclusion from the results of the survey is that much research has been focused on the marine side interface of a container terminal, which leaves room for further research such as on the land-side interface. In addition, it seems that the use of simulation is becoming the method that is most often used to study these types of problems. I Multi-Agent Systems for Container Terminal Management
